Need a taxi? Use your mobile!

So you are in Greece and in need of a taxi? There is an app for that! Actually 2 apps.  Taxibeat and Taxiplon. Both offer their own flavour of an  ‘e-hailing  a taxi’ (sic) app and they both run on iPhones and Android devices.
The basic process is this:

  • You download the application to your phone
  • Start the app which will automatically show your location on a map
  • Call a taxi. Taxiplon will automatically assign the call to the closest driver. Taxibeat on the other hand, allows you  to pick the driver you want based on different characteristics, like car make or driver’s rating.
  • At the end of your drive, you can rate the driver.  Taxibeat also allows drivers to rate their customer’s

Thessaloniki By Bus – A crowdsourced Android app

Thessaloniki by Bus is a cool  little  Android app giving real-time information about buses and bus routes in the city of Thessaloniki directly from the bus passengers! It also provides:

  • A personal transportation profile
  • Profile comparisons with other users
  • All the bus routes available on your mobile

The app is a student project designed and developed during the summer of 2011 from RAPPEL team members with the support of the ISAG team of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universtiy of Thessaloniki.  You can download the app from the Android Market
